Dispersal Order by police to protect farms damaged by large groups of motorbike riders

Police have issued the order to help protect farms in Nottinghamshire.

Police said:

‘As of 07:00 hours on Saturday, 1st February 2025, for 48 hours, a dispersal order will commence for Bassetlaw and Ollerton.

‘A number of farms have been heavily affected by damage to their land, crops, and gates due to large groups of motorbikes illegally driving over farmland, public footpaths, and Forestry Commission land. KTM and other motocross bikes have been reported to have caused tens of thousands of pounds’ worth of destruction to local farms, as well as farmers receiving violent threats.

‘A dispersal order will mean that any persons suspected of causing or likely to cause anti-social behaviour in the mapped area will be excluded for up to 48 hours. Anyone returning to the area will face arrest and prosecution.

‘Police resources have been implemented to assist in detaining these offenders and preventing crime.

‘We are urging the community to report any sightings of motorbikes, including both those permitted to use a public highway and those with off-road capability, as well as any motorbikes without visible registrations and riders not wearing a helmet.

‘In addition to the dispersal order, police will be considering traffic offences for those driving illegally and using their vehicles to commit crime.

‘Dangerous driving and damage to property will not be tolerated. Motorbike riders are not exempt from the law and must travel on a road—NOT a bridleway or a public footpath.

‘Any vehicles, such as vans transporting the bikes, will be seized and drivers detained. Please call 101 with any information, quoting incident number 0428_31012025.’
