Emmanuel House CEO announces retirement after over a decade of service

Emmanuel House Support Centre has today announced the retirement of its long-standing Chief Executive Officer, Denis Tully.

He will be stepping down having been at the helm of the independent homelessness charity as its CEO for the past 10 years, after joining Emmanuel House in September 2013.

Since taking on the role of CEO in September 2015, Denis has played a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of Emmanuel House, championing its mission to support vulnerable people with compassion and dignity. Under his leadership, the charity has expanded its services, including new accommodation provision and the Culturally Specific Support Service, while developing the quality of support throughout all services for which Emmanuel House is renowned.

Denis will be stepping down from the post in November 2025. The process to appoint a new CEO is currently underway, with further announcements to follow in due course.

Denis said: “It’s been a privilege to work for Emmanuel House and I believe it is simply time for someone else to drive developments in the charity.”

The Board of Trustees at Emmanuel House has also expressed their deep gratitude for Denis’s service.

Clive Sillito, Chair of Trustees, said: “Denis has shaped and strengthened Emmanuel House through his servant-hearted leadership. He has shown a deep commitment to person-centred care. The Board has nothing but praise for how he has led the charity over the last decade.”

As well as swiftly adapting during the Covid-19 pandemic, when Emmanuel House played a vital role in delivering emergency accommodation and support, Denis’s tenure has also included cultivating a thriving community of volunteers. The charity has over 150 active volunteers, with over 51 different business and community groups donating over 1400 hours in the last financial year.

Denis added: “It goes without saying that the depth of my gratitude to all our staff and volunteers past and present is infinite. The enrichment they bring to Emmanuel House is incalculable and the difference they make to making my role both easier and enjoyable is also incalculable.

“It has been a privilege to have worked with such diverse and talented staff teams, people who I admire greatly for what they achieve and from whom I have learned so much.

“Emmanuel House is really about the thousands of people who are involved in the charity in so many ways, whether they donate from afar or turn up at fundraising events. Our supporters provide the means to make work happen, for whom I am thankful.”

For almost 50 years, Emmanuel House has been at the heart of the city’s response to homelessness. As Denis steps down, the charity remains committed to providing vital support and pathways out of homelessness to some of Nottingham’s most vulnerable people.
