Essential renewal work to close level crossing for four Saturday nights

Upgrades to Meadow Lane level crossing in Long Eaton will take place during four Saturday night shifts beginning this weekend (Saturday 21 February into Sunday 22 February).

The project will replace the existing worn surface, remove current trip hazards, level out the crossing and reduce vehicle noise thanks to the installation of a new rubber surfacing system.

The work, improving safety for all users, has been planned to keep disruption to a minimum but will mean no vehicle access to the crossing from:

  • 23:30 Saturday 21 February to 10:30 Sunday 22 February
  • 23:30 Saturday 28 February to 10:30 Sunday 1 March
  • 23:30 Saturday 14 March to 10:30 Sunday 15 March
  • 23:30 Saturday 28 March to 10:30 Sunday 29 March

Residents on the eastern side of Meadow Lane crossing who may need access to their vehicles during these times are advised to park on the Long Eaton side on the affected days.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the work. Emergency services will be able to cross if required.

The work, on the line between Nottingham and Derby, will mean changes to some train journeys on the affected Sunday mornings – 22 February and 1, 15 and 29 March.

Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said:

“The improvements will provide a safer, smoother and quieter crossing surface, and we have planned the programme carefully to keep disruption to a minimum. We appreciate that closing Meadow Lane will be inconvenient, and we’d like to thank residents for their patience while this vital work takes place. We also encourage anyone travelling on the Sunday mornings of the affected weekends to check before they travel, as there will be changes to services while the work is completed.”

A joint spokesperson for CrossCountry and East Midlands Railway said:

“We’d like to thank passengers and local people for their patience while these essential improvements to Meadow Lane level crossing are carried out. Sunday morning services across these weekends will be subject to some changes, so we’re encouraging passengers to double-check their journey before setting off and allow a little extra time for their trip.”
