There are free skateboarding sessions available from Skate Nottingham this half-term, offering brilliant coaching, obstacle building, and skills development workshops for over-sevens, delivered from skateparks in Rushcliffe.
It’s all part of a programme funded by UK Shared Prosperity Funding, supported by the UK Government, and allocated by Rushcliffe Borough Council, joining forces with the group to deliver the events on the back of previous successful dates.
The sessions take place on Saturday, 26 October from 10am until 12pm at East Leake skatepark, and Wednesday, 30 October at Rushcliffe Country Park skatepark in Ruddington.
The Ruddington event will host a skateboard coaching session from 10am until 12pm, and an obstacle building workshop from 12pm to 4pm.
Attendance can be booked for free online at RushcliffeSkateboarding, and the sessions are open to anyone aged seven or above and of all abilities. Skateboards and helmets are available during the sessions, or participants can use their own equipment.
They offer the chance to take part in skate coaching and obstacle building workshops, where the team’s experienced coaches can help attendees hone their skills.
So far, events have taken place at Lady Bay, Radcliffe-on-Trent, and Keyworth skateparks, with more than £4,000 allocated to support the project, which is also delivering youth engagement sessions and helping young people develop skatepark design skills alongside practical trade skills such as woodwork and joinery.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Business and Growth, Cllr Abby Brennan, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this project as part of our ongoing initiatives that seek to promote lifelong exercise habits.

“We are working with Skate Nottingham to empower young residents to become custodians of the variety of facilities we have located across the borough, whilst also enhancing long-term community engagement beyond the programme’s duration.”
“The project is also assessing the maintenance needs of the skateparks and provides skills development workshops for young participants and 18- to 27-year-olds, focused on construction, environmental resilience, and employability.”

Tom Quigley from Skate Nottingham added: “We’re excited to be working with Rushcliffe Borough Council to bring this programme of free skateboard coaching and construction workshops to five different skateparks in the area, providing much-needed extra-curricular enrichment and learning opportunities for young people.
“The borough of Rushcliffe has an estate of unique and complementary skatepark facilities, several of which were supported by Skate Nottingham throughout the funding and user consultation phases, so it’s a real pleasure to be activating them again with free events for the community.”
