Three suspects have appeared in court after a stolen car led police on a high-speed pursuit before being dumped in a field.
Road crime team officers were on the A60 in Ruddington at around 8:10pm on Tuesday (8 August) when they spotted the vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Leicester.
After police activated their blue lights, a pursuit then took place at speed around the Rushcliffe area, before the car was eventually driven into and abandoned in a farmer’s field in Barton, adjacent to the A453.
When the occupants of the vehicle fled from the scene on foot, the police dog unit was then deployed and quickly located three suspects in the surrounding farmland.
Aaron Greenhough, 18, Myren Splatt, 18, and a 16-year-old boy were all subsequently charged with aggravated vehicle taking.
Greenhough, of HMP Nottingham, was also charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
All three suspects appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (10 August), where Greenhough and Splatt, of Hungarton Boulevard, Leicester, denied the charges, while the 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty.
Greenhough was remanded in custody, while Splatt was released on conditional bail, ahead of both appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on 7 September 2023.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was released on conditional bail to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on 13 September 2023.
Detective Sergeant Steve Willetts, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We clearly don’t want to see the standard of driving demonstrated in this incident anywhere near our roads, because of the danger it can put other road users in.
“Thankfully nobody suffered any injuries on this occasion but it is important that people know how seriously Nottinghamshire Police take reports of dangerous driving and that this simply will not be tolerated.
“We are pleased to have now charged three suspects in connection with this incident and to have been able to put them before the courts.”
