Jail for Nottingham man who sexually abused a child multiple times

A man has been jailed after he admitted to sexually abusing a child on multiple occasions.

Shaun Mather, aged 23, abused the girl over a number of years before his crimes were reported to the police in May 2020.

When he was subsequently interviewed by officers he declined to comment.

Following a thorough investigation by Nottinghamshire Police he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and three counts of sexual activity with a child.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (Friday) Mather, of Alma Hill, Kimberley, was jailed for six years and was also place on the sexual offenders’ register.

In addition, he was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order which will tightly restrict his behaviour when he is released.

Detective Constable Emily Bucklow, of Nottinghamshire Police’s public protection team, said: “The victim in this case suffered considerable distress over a long period of time and I am pleased her abuser has now been brought to justice.

“What this case shows is that it doesn’t matter how long ago offences happened; when people reports cases like this to us we will investigate them in the same way we always do – with professionalism, compassion and a determination to get to the truth.

“I hope, therefore, that this case serves as a reminder to other victims that it is never too late to report what happened to them.”
