The force’s knife crime team seized two blades and made an arrest after spotting a suspected drug deal.
Officers from the specialist team were patrolling the Radford area when an individual aroused their suspicions.
Believing the individual might be attempting to buy drugs, police followed them down an alleyway behind Myrtle Avenue. At that point, officers witnessed what appeared to be a drug deal taking place, so they quickly moved in and detained a suspect.
This occurred around 12:25 pm on Wednesday (30 October), with knife crime team officers then conducting a search. A large, combat-style lock knife was recovered from the suspect, along with a bundle containing significant quantities of cocaine and heroin.
Large amounts of cash, a burner phone, and weighing scales were also seized from the individual. Further searches of the surrounding area uncovered a second lock knife and more wraps of Class A drugs in a nearby garden.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in a public place and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
PC Glen Fitzgerald, of Nottinghamshire Police’s knife crime team, said:
“This incident perfectly exemplified exactly why our team exists and why the patrols we carry out are so important. By being out in the community as we were, we were able to take action when we spotted some activity that aroused our suspicions.
“It is not uncommon for us as a team to focus on those we suspect of being involved in the supply of drugs, as we often find these individuals to be carrying knives when we stop them.
“In this case, we were able to seize not just one, but two blades, while also recovering large quantities of Class A drugs in the process.
“As our team’s name would suggest, our main priority is to take weapons off our streets, so to be able to do that, seize drugs, and make an arrest too, represents a cracking result.”
