Live updates: M1 closed both ways J28-J29 tanker fire

The M1 in Derbyshire is closed in both directions between J29 and J28 near (Mansfield) due to a tanker fire.

‘Emergency resurfacing works are now complete and all lanes have re-opened on the M1 southbound between J29 & J28 near Mansfield following a vehicle fire yesterday.

Restrictions are expected to remain in place until mid morning

The M1 southbound between J29 and J28 near Mansfield has now reopened.

Lanes 1 and 2 (of 4) remain closed for emergency resurfacing following the earlier vehicle fire.

UPDATE – The M1 has reopened northbound between J28 and J29 near Mansfield.

The M1 in Derbyshire is closed southbound between J29 and J28 near (Mansfield) due to an earlier tanker fire.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service initially attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, which was a lengthy process due to the nature of vehicle involved.

Due to damage sustained to the road surface, the southbound carriageway is likely to remain closed until Wednesday morning to facilitate resurfacing works and for recovery of the tanker.

‘There are currently delays of approx. 60 mins in both directions on approach to the closures.’


Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service | 11:32

‘We currently have 4 fire engines, 2 water carriers & a foam unit dealing with a vehicle fire on the #M1 southbound between J29 & J28.’

The road is closed in both directions. There is a large smoke plume in the area. Local residents are advised to keep their windows & doors shut.’

Firefighters from Ashfield and others from across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire are at a large vehicle Fire Jct 29 M1 to Jct 29 pinxton.

The M1 entry slip in both directions at J29 is also closed

Emergency services are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management

Diversion Route

Road users are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs if heading southbound’.

At M1 junction 29, exit onto the A617 and continue eastbound for approx. 8km.

Then take the A6075 Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR), until it links up with the A38.

Follow the A38 westbound to rejoin the M1 at junction 28.

Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs if heading northbound’.

At M1 junction 28, exit onto the A38 eastbound for approx. 7.5 km, and then take the A6075 Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR), until it links up with the A617.

Follow the A617 westbound and re-join the M1 at junction 29.
