A high value burglary where tens of thousands of pounds of jewellery was stolen has led to an arrest.
Police were called to the break-in at Goldsmiths Jewellers in Victoria Street at around 11.20am on Saturday 23 May, with the incident believed to have happened overnight on Friday 22 May.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary in connection with the incident.
Detective Sergeant Ian Holmes is leading the investigation. He said: “This is an unusual case where a large bounty of jewellery has been targeted.
“We believe that thieves got into the building by smashing a wall through from Bottle Lane.
“The last thing businesses need in these difficult times is to be suffering losses at the hands of criminals. We’ll do everything we can to get to the bottom of this, find those responsible and reduce the impact on the business.”
A 42-year-old man had previously been arrested and has been released with no further action.
