Man charged after shoplifting incident at John Lewis Nottingham

A suspected shoplifter was arrested after he allegedly removed a security tag from wireless headphones, put them in his pocket and attempted to leave without paying.

Security guards at John Lewis at the Victoria Centre called the police after detaining the man shortly before 4 pm on Monday (9 January).

Officers arrived and took the man into custody.

Oliver Willment-Coster, of Wellington Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, has been charged with theft from a shop.

The 20-year-old appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (11 January).

He was granted conditional bail and is next due to appear at the same court on 8 March 2022.

PC Matthew West, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We understand the impact shop thefts can have on retailers which is why will always look to take action against those who commit such offences.

“I hope this charge sends a message that shop thefts will not be tolerated and we will continue to work with our partners to tackle retail crime.”
