A 28-year-old man wanted for more than five years by Polish authorities in connection with violent robberies was found hiding under a bed in Nottingham today.
The man was arrested in connection with two European Arrest Warrants for offences in Poland dating back to 2013.
Forces across the United Kingdom had worked tirelessly to locate the man.
Police Sergeant Timothy Cuthbert of Nottinghamshire Police said: “A massive amount of effort has gone in to locating the man, with dozens of enquiries and multiple forces involved in finding him.
“A persistent effort from our officers in Nottinghamshire Police’s Foreign National Offending Team led authorities to believe the man had links to the Greater Manchester and Blackpool area as well as Nottinghamshire.
“Today, following extensive enquiries, officers attended an address on Wollaton Road in Aspley, and having covered all possible escape routes, the man was found hiding under a bed.
“He was quickly detained and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (24 June 2020) for his extradition hearing, and it’s expected that he will be returned to Poland in the near future.
“The offences the man is wanted in connection with are violent robberies, one of which included weapons and we are pleased that we have been able to help Polish authorities in detaining him, and would like to thank them for their assistance in this matter.”
