Methodist chapel and schoolhouse in Rushcliffe village up for auction

A historic Methodist chapel and neighbouring schoolhouse in a Rushcliffe village is to go up for auction this month with a £300,000 guide price.

The unique property is in the village of Cropwell Bishop in Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire.

The grade II listed building, which dates back to 1842, will be included among around 200 lots in the next national property auction to be held by SDL Property Auctions, part of Eddisons, on 25 April, 2024.

The single-storey Wesleyan chapel, which is built in traditional Flemish bond brickwork, features high ceilings and large arched windows, some with stained glass.

The church’s pews, pulpit and organ are all still intact and the building will be auctioned along with the schoolhouse, which consists of a main hall, kitchen and toilets.

The 0.2 acre site includes paddocks to the rear of the buildings.

Andrew Parker, auctioneer and managing director at SDL Property Auctions, said:

“This is a unique opportunity to buy two historic properties on a good-sized site in Cropwell Bishop, which is surrounded by the rolling countryside of the Vale of Belvoir and yet is just 20 minute from the centre of Nottingham.”

He added: “A prospective buyer would of course need to secure planning consent for any redevelopment scheme but there is certainly scope for conversion to two residential dwellings with lots of space for gardens, and in a well-situated and popular village like Cropwell Bishop, which is synonymous with artisan stilton cheesemaking, it would be a savvy investment.”
