As the structure of frontline policing changes and more officers are welcomed to Nottinghamshire as part of a national recruitment drive, the force’s fleet team have been incorporating these changes and adapting the range of vehicles available to match.
The work being undertaken within the fleet team has involved investing in new vehicles and upgrading some of the current vehicles already available to Nottinghamshire Police to better suit operational needs.
An additional 25 vehicles have been made available to support the Neighbourhood Policing Teams, including a range of new Toyota Aygos.
Introducing these smaller vehicles to carry out more general policing duties means the existing fleet of frontline response vehicles are more readily available for emergency response and initial phase pursuit.
Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “This work is absolutely about ensuring our officers have the best and most affordable tools for the job, putting the right resources in the right places.
“Investing where it’s sensible and looking at where certain vehicles are better suited to different roles means we can use them to their best advantage, whilst freeing up our frontline vehicles required for emergency response jobs.
“We are, of course, expanding as part of our recruitment campaign. Our vehicles are and absolutely will be a valuable piece of equipment and so it is vital that we keep looking at cost-effective ways to expand and diversify our fleet.”
A further 11 marked Standard Response new vehicles are also due to go into service to support roles as part of the Operation Reacher model, which was set up to target drug offences in Bestwood and is currently being rolled out to neighbourhoods across the county.
It follows the success of introducing several new vehicles to our fleet including X5s which have been used by Armed Policing, new Road Crime Advanced Vehicles and Vivaro Vans.
