Nottingham city knife crime team arrest drug dealer

A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Nottingham following a spot by an officer in plain clothes.

The city knife crime team were carrying out patrols of the Arboretum area when they observed some suspicious behaviour.

After a plain clothed officer believed they’d seen a drug deal take place in Gill Street, the rest of the team moved towards that location.

At 8.50pm on Thursday (18 April), knife crime officers pulled over a car they suspected as being involved.

The vehicle in question was at that point searched in Peel Street, with the team then discovering multiple deal bags of cannabis and cannabis edibles.

Quantities of suspected Class A drugs, cash and mobile phones were also seized by police from within the car they’d stopped.

The suspect was additionally made to complete a roadside drugs wipe, which tested positive for traces of cannabis.

Following the findings, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, as well as drug-driving.

Sergeant Matt Daley, of Nottinghamshire Police’s city knife crime team, said: “This incident provided a great example of the importance of the patrols we carry out each day as a team.

“Mixing uniformed and plain clothed officers on our patrols provides us with a great opportunity to spot different types of criminality that we might otherwise miss.

“While our main goal is obviously to identify and arrest those suspected of being involved in weapon-enabled crime, we know those who carry knives do often have links to other offences.

“As an example, we tend to see knife-carriers involved in drug dealing, which is precisely why we also look to target those involved in this practice.

“While the suspect detained in this instance didn’t have a weapon in their possession, we were able to take quantities of Class A and Class B drugs off the streets, so it was a good result.”
