Police dog stops suspect with a bag of Rolex watches after pursuit

A suspect dumped a bag of Rolex watches as he tried to run from police.

Officers approached a driver who had stopped in Radford and asked what was wrong with his rear offside wheel.

He was evasive and dismissive about the problem and so the officers asked for his details.

The man went to fetch his documents from his car, but then locked the doors and drove off.

A short pursuit commenced in which the driver ignored no entry signs, drove onto tram lines and narrowly missed a motorcyclist as he tried to evade capture.

He abandoned the car in Durnford Street and made off on foot with a rucksack and bag for life.

He then ran down an alleyway but was no match for Police Dog Reno, who chased him down and apprehended him.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested by officers who noticed he was no longer carrying the rucksack and bag for life.

Officers searched the area and recovered a rucksack and bag, which contained various items including cash and several Rolex watches.

Inquiries to establish whether the watches were stolen are ongoing following the arrest, which took place at around 3.30am on Wednesday (17 January).

The suspect was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving whilst unfit through drink / drugs.

PC Gareth Dennett, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was an appalling display of driving and I am pleased he was quickly arrested with the help of PD Reno.

“The man was taken to hospital for treatment of a minor injury he sustained during the arrest.

“He was then taken into custody for questioning.”
