The Royal Family announced the news at 6:30 pm on 8 September.
The statement reads:
‘The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
‘The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.’
Ruth Edwards MP said:
‘I am devastated to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I would like to send my condolences and those of my constituents in Rushcliffe to the Royal Family.
‘For me, as for most of us, the Queen has been a constant and reassuring presence. We have never known a time when she wasn’t on the throne. She has symbolised stability and she has been a guiding light to our nation through the seven decades of Her reign.
‘Her devotion to duty and public service remains an example to us all.
‘May she rest in eternal peace and may God save the King.’
