A man has been jailed after a burglary at a supermarket in Worksop, while two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle and burglary investigation on the same day.
Jonathan McGrath, 37, of Carlton Road, Worksop, was charged with burglary after an incident at Aldi on Gateford Road in the early hours of Wednesday 21 January. Police were called at 3.47am to reports of a break-in at the store.
McGrath is accused of using a trolley to force entry through the doors and stealing goods valued at more than £300, including meat, toothpaste and batteries.
He was detained in the car park and later appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 22 January. After activating a suspended sentence, he was jailed for a total of eight months.
Later the same morning, police received reports shortly after 6.50am that a vehicle had been stolen from Sandy Lane. Automatic number plate recognition cameras tracked the car travelling towards Blyth services on the A1.
Officers located the vehicle parked outside a Starbucks café at the service station, where two boys were seen running from the area.
Two suspects were detained by 8.18am, and car keys were found during a search of one of them. Two 16-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and burglary. They were released on police bail while enquiries continue, and the vehicle has been returned to its owner.
Inspector Robert Harrison, district commander for Bassetlaw, said the incidents highlighted the importance of responding quickly to burglary reports and confirmed that tackling burglary remains a local priority in the area.
