Arrest after car stolen from Ruddington spotted on false number plates

A man has been arrested after police spotted and followed a car suspected of being stolen which was displaying false plates.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s operational support unit spotted the Vauxhall Astra, which was travelling in the Clifton area during the early hours of today (Saturday 1 October 2022).

The driver tried to evade police and failed to stop. A short time later the car came to a stop in Village Road and a man was detained.

Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen from the Ruddington area in August.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and possession of cannabis.

Police Constable Anna Fisher, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a really great bit of proactive police work. We understand the significant impact vehicle theft can have on victims, both in terms of the financial impact and also how being without a vehicle can disrupt their daily activities.

“I’m pleased our officers acted swiftly to make this arrest and I hope it warns others who commits crime in Nottinghamshire that we will catch them and ensure they are appropriately dealt with.”
