Car trapped between lamppost and parked vehicle after police pursuit

A man has been remanded into custody after pleading guilty to multiple driving offences following a police pursuit in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

Steven Ball, 41, of no fixed address, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 26 February.

The court heard that at around 10am on Tuesday, police officers in Kirkby-in-Ashfield attempted to stop a Toyota RAV4 in Rosebury Street. The vehicle reversed at speed and drove away.

During the pursuit, the vehicle travelled at speeds of more than 70mph in residential areas, mounted a grass verge and passed through several junctions. It later mounted a pavement on Kingsway, where it became wedged between a parked car and a lamppost.

Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said the incident had put other road users and pedestrians at risk.
