Man in court after three cars and Christmas decorations set on fire

Detectives investigating three suspected arson attacks on cars, and electricity cabling and Christmas decorations have placed a man before the courts.

Police were attending an incident in Hucknall around 8.10pm on Sunday (4 January) when they spotted the first vehicle ablaze in Nottingham Road.

They were then alerted to further fires in vehicles parked on driveways, a public bin, a street cabinet containing electrical cables and in boxes of Christmas decorations left in a garden.

Officers carried out searches of the area and located a suspect who was arrested. They also recovered a lighter and a glass bottle containing an unknown liquid.

A police officer was later spat at and threatened.

“We understand these incidents will have caused concern in the community so I’m pleased to share this update.

“Police patrols were increased in response to the fires and teams will be in the area to provide further reassurance over the coming days.
