Police say no reports have been received following social media claims that two women were attacked in East Leake.
Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Team said it had become aware of a Facebook post circulating on community pages in the village.
The post claims that, within the past two weeks, two women were attacked on Main Street by a man who attempted to drag them away.
It also reportedly suggests that Nottinghamshire Police had been informed about the alleged incidents but declined to issue a statement.
Police have now said no incident matching the description has been reported to the force.
Officers said enquiries had been carried out but they had so far been unable to establish that an attack of this nature had taken place and gone unreported.
The neighbourhood policing team acknowledged that reports of this kind would be extremely concerning for residents.
Anyone with information suggesting the claims are genuine, or anyone directly involved in an incident, is being urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.
Police said receiving a report would allow officers to carry out a full investigation, safeguard anyone involved and assess any potential risk to the wider public.
