Police share CCTV image after homophobic abuse incident at a Nottingham bar

Nottinghamshire Police has released an image of a man they wish to trace after a member of bar staff was subjected to homophobic abuse.

The incident happened at the Alchemist bar on King Street in Nottingham city centre on Saturday, 17 August, just after 11pm.

A man was asked to leave the venue by a member of staff and became aggressive, which included threats and a homophobic comment.

He left the venue and did not return.

The incident is being treated as a public order offence and hate crime.

Police have now issued an image of a man who could help further the investigation, and they are calling on the public’s help to identify him.

PC James Anderton, who is investigating the incident, said: “Rather than leave the venue as asked, the man became extremely aggressive and used language that would have caused the victim fear, alarm, and distress.

“No one should have to go into work and face this level of abuse, and that is why we are determined to catch the person responsible.

“We have followed a number of lines of inquiry since the incident occurred in August but have not managed to locate the person responsible.

“We are now calling on the public’s help. We have released an image of a man who could assist us with our inquiries.

“Unfortunately, this is the best image we have, but we believe someone will recognise the person pictured.

“Do you know the man in the image? Are you the man in the image? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident number 0808 of 17 August 2024, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
