Nottingham City Transport says all services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations because of congestion in the city centre and surrounding roads.
There is no major fresh incident or closure identified on the Nottinghamshire section of the M1 in the early check, while long-term restrictions remain on the A52 at Wheatcroft. A significant new programme of overnight works also begins tonight around A52 Clifton Bridge.
Maid Marian Way – severe bus disruption continues
The demolition traffic management around Maid Marian Way and Broad Marsh remains the biggest potential problem for bus passengers this morning.
Nottingham City Transport service updates currently carries a network-wide city-centre warning saying the demolition works have left the city centre and surrounding roads severely congested.
NCT says all services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations.
The warning follows another difficult day on Sunday, when NCT reported delays on Red 45/B, Navy and Green Line services through the demolition works.
Trentbarton – city-centre services cut short
trentbarton has also been curtailing several services at Broad Marsh Bus Station to avoid the worst of the congestion.
The arrangements reported over the weekend have affected mainline, skylink Nottingham, skylink express, the cotgrave and the keyworth, which have been terminating at Broad Marsh rather than serving Friar Lane, Beastmarket Hill and Mount Street.
i4 and indigo have continued to serve Friar Lane.
Given that today is the first weekday since those arrangements were introduced, Maid Marian Way and the surrounding city-centre approaches are the key locations to monitor once commuter traffic increases.
Roads and motorways
The current live M1 incident listing shows no incident closures anywhere on the motorway at the time checked.
No major incident causing widespread disruption has been identified in the early checks on the A1, A46 or A52 in Nottinghamshire either.
There are, however, substantial continuing roadworks.
A52 Wheatcroft
Lane restrictions remain in place on the A52 eastbound between the A606 and A6011, including Wheatcroft Roundabout, as the Nottingham junction improvement programme continues.
The current traffic management is scheduled to remain until 20:00 on Friday 9 October.
Drivers travelling between West Bridgford, Ruddington, Gamston and the A46 should continue to allow additional time.
A52 Clifton Bridge – major works start tonight
A significant new National Highways programme starts tonight around A52 Clifton Bridge.
High-mast lighting works run from Monday 5 to Tuesday 13 October, generally between 20:00 and 06:00.
From tonight through Wednesday night, the A453 northbound to A52 westbound link will close, including the Silverdale Island entry slip.
Drivers will also be unable to turn right into Silverdale during the closure.
One lane of the A52 eastbound between Queens Drive Roundabout and Silverdale will also be closed.
The next major stage comes on Thursday 8 October, when the A52 Queens Drive Flyover closes overnight, although Queens Drive Island itself remains open.
West Bridgford – Gordon Road closes today
A significant new set of gas-main works starts on Gordon Road in West Bridgford today.
The closure affects NCT Green 5/A, 6 and 12/C/E towards Nottingham from today until Friday 16 October.
Green 5/A buses towards Nottingham divert from Brockley Road via Davies Road and Radcliffe Road to Trent Bridge.
Green 6 continues along Stamford Road, then uses Melton Road, Musters Road, Rectory Road and Central Avenue.
Green 12/C/E remains on Radcliffe Road towards Trent Bridge.
The closure means a substantial number of stops towards Nottingham are not served, including Brockley Road, Cyril Road, Davies Road, Tudor Square, Central Avenue, Co-op, Hound Road, Cricket Ground and others depending on the service. NCTX Apps
Trentbarton’s mainline, the cotgrave and rushcliffe villager are also affected by the Gordon Road works.
Rectory Road – works continue
The separate gas works on Rectory Road in West Bridgford continue until Friday 9 October.
NCT Green 7, 8 and 9 towards Nottingham cannot serve Central Avenue Shops.
Buses operate along Rectory Road and Bridgford Road before returning to their normal routes.
The combination of the Gordon Road and Rectory Road schemes means West Bridgford has two significant sets of bus and traffic restrictions operating simultaneously from today.
Lowdham Roundabout
Long-term works continue at Lowdham Roundabout as part of the A6097/A614 improvement scheme.
NCT says the programme is expected to last for around 13 months and is likely to cause delays to Pathfinder 26.
Further road closures will be required as the scheme progresses.
Trams – normal weekday timetable returns
NET said at 6 am:
The following tram departures are cancelled: 07:45, 09:59 from Hucknall 08:53 from Toton 08:03, 08:33, 09:48 from Phoenix 07:07, 07:37, 08:52, 09:22 from Clifton
NET Nottingham Tram confirms that its normal weekday timetable resumes from today, Monday 5 October.
The strike programme ran from 26 September to 3 October, with complete shutdowns on four days and action short of a strike on the intervening weekdays.
Trams returned to all stops on Sunday and normal weekday frequencies are scheduled from today.
This should provide some relief to the bus network after the substantial additional pressure caused by the tram shutdowns during Goose Fair.
Rail
No major fresh incident affecting the Nottingham–London, Nottingham–Derby or Nottingham–Sheffield corridors has been identified in the early check.
The signalling problem at London St Pancras which affected East Midlands Railway services on Saturday was cleared that afternoon and should not be carried forward as current disruption.
Passengers using East Midlands Railway should nevertheless check individual journeys before travelling.
Other continuing NCT disruption
Roadworks on Derby Road continue to delay 18/A/X, Orange 34/C, 35/A/B, 36/U and hopper 903, with the Triumph Road stop towards Nottingham closed.
Gas works on Queens Road continue to delay 18/A/B, with the Salisbury Street stop towards Beeston and Stapleford closed.
Green 11/C towards Lady Bay remains diverted because of the closure of Bathley Street, with those arrangements continuing through Friday 9 October.
Blue 40A also continues to terminate at the Radiotherapy stop at City Hospital because Linden Way remains closed.
Looking ahead this week
Further bus disruption starts on Tuesday 6 October in Arnold, where daytime works on High Street run through Friday.
Between 09:30 and 15:30, buses including NCT 25, 53, 54, 55, 56, 58, 79 and 87 will be affected, with the Arnold High Street stop behind ASDA not served.
